Train table layout part 2

I already knew I was going to have a mountain and a small town on my layout, and I wanted to have some of the track elevated so everything wasn’t just sitting on the same level ground. But I had to figure out what track would be elevated and how I would do it.

The idea was to use risers and make the middle track go into town which would be in the middle of the layout. But it didn’t look good if the track continued to curve when it stopped at the train station…I’d rather have it straight at that point. So after getting more track and moving things around a bit, I was able to get the approach into town straightened out.

I figured at this point I was happy enough with the layout. So I removed everything from the table and glued down some foam on the table top, then put the track back on.

I then carved some thicker pieces of styrofoam that would act as the hill my town is on, and put the risers under the track.

Not bad, but still needs a lot of work. I want to put a mountain on the far side of the table with a tunnel over the inner track, and another tunnel on the near side’s innermost track. I also want to throw a bridge in somewhere but I have no idea where…I might be trying to add too much.
